I spilt red wine on my carpet yesterday.and have used resolve carpet cleaner and liquid laundry soap detergent with a wet towel to pretty well rubbed out the stains.

I keep hearing that white vinegar will really help now with getting rid of the odor, but if I now pour white vinegar on my carpet, is it going to now have a vinegar smell?

will all these odors from the resolve, the detergent, the wine, the vinegar all eventually go away , i really dont want ANY smell from my carpet!

Thanks for your answers!

Yes, it will smell like vinegar for awhile but it will diminish. It's actually a odor neutralizer.:)

White vinegar smells very sharp and acidic. It is the vinegar that you get pickled onions in. I wouldn't recommend putting on your carpet. I would let your carpet dry out thoroughly firstly and then use Vansih for carpets and upholstery.

Just for future reference - water is about the worst thing that you can put on any carpet stain as it makes the stain spread over a larger area and drives the wine or whatever deeper into the carpet pile. The best thing to do with spills on carpets is to get a dry towels and plenty of them depending on amount of spillage and then just soak as much of the spillage as you can into the dry towel. Good quality paper towels are also really good for this purpose but you do need to us a lot at a time. Just place towel(s) over the spill and push down hard on the towel - do not rub!! just keep pressing, release the towel, get a dry towel and press again so on and so on until the towel no longer soaks any more liquid up. This is more easily noticeable with paper towels.

Then use Vanish. Sometimes, if you get to the stain quickly enough you and dab the carpet with clean towels for long enough you won't even need to use Vanish.

My nephew spilt blackcurrent juice on my cream carpet not so long ago. I used the above method. I did need to use Vanish but now there is absolutely no trace of the stain.

Good Luck
