Lay magistrates are not legally trained (although neither are Justices of the Peace - Magistrates - but they both have Clerk to the Courts to advise them). Generally both deal with lesser offences, but often a JP will sit alone, whereas Lay Magistrates almost always sit as a panel of three.

Deal with it? Every time I've spoken to aman who screams and screams about feminists this, feminists that, MRA! FemNazi! And other such crap, the end result is that some well educated female doctor refused to sleep with his overweight taco bell-working ***. Honestly, i feel like 99% of the anger directed at feminists is from ugly men who can't get laid, and missed the good old days when $9 an hour at taco bell was more than a woman could make. Now, men actually have to compete to win a woman, and few men can.

The lay magistrates (normally 3), or ‘Justices of the Peace’, as they are also known, are local people who volunteer their services. They don’t have formal legal qualifications, but are given legal and procedural advice by qualified clerks.
