I am getting very frustrated and dont know what to do... I have resolved not to give my son anything with sugar in it untill he starts to demand it, the problem is that all (with the exception of one or two items) baby food has sugar in it! I dont feed him the bottled toxic waste, and make most of his food from fresh organic fruit and veggies, but it would be nice to give him some cereal every now and then and am frustrated that all of them are sweetened! I have also discovered that the follow on formula has sugar in it to... Can anyone suggest reasonably priced sugar free alternatives? It is not wonder so many children have behavioural problems nowdays.

you can actully make your own cereals!! take raw plain oatmeal... grind it fine in a blender or food processor... then cook it on the stove according ot package directions!!

**babies/kids do need sugars... but not ADDED to foods... fruit is sugar, starches - like oatmeal, rice, wheat -turn into sugar... if something has an ingredient list that says it contains "sugar, high frutcose corn syrup" or something like that - then NO you nor your childrend need this!!

I did just look up the ingredients in dry Gerber rice cereal this is what I found:
"""Rice Flour, Vitamins and Minerals (Tri- And Dicalcium Phosphate, Electrolytic Iron, Zinc Sulfate, Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate [Vitamin E], Niacinamide [a B Vitamin], Pyridoxine Hydrochloride [Vitamin B6], Riboflavin [Vitamin B2], Thiamin Mononitrate [Vitamin B1], Folic Acid [a B Vitamin], Vitamin B12 [Cyanocobalamin]), Soybean Oil, Soy Lecithin, Tuna Oil (Source of DHA), Gelatin, Mixed Tocopherols (for Freshness), Sodium Ascorbate (for Freshness).""" http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/detail?prodid=435155#ingredients
I actually don't see any added sugar in it at all!!!!

Have you tried organic lines of cereal?

I'm sure some are sweetened with fruit juice or something vs regular sugar.

You are aware that most fruits and vegtables have natural occuring sugar so you may as well say it is Ok if the cereal isn't 3 meals a day.

kids need sugars. those foods are fine to give your child and you are giving you child sugar in your organic stuff too. fruits are an excellent source of natural sugar. dont feed your child processed junk food. the baby food in the jars is at natural and safe as your organic stuff. your body needs a certain amount of sugar to function sugar builds energy dont deprive your child of it. theres a reason its in there. it helps keep the pancreas working call your childs doctor and ask them
