They have the sense of the danger, if another dolphin is drowning, other dolphins will come to its aid, supporting it with their bodies so its blowhole is above the water allowing it to breathe. Dolphin's main predators are sharks, killer Wales and unfortunately man, through direct killing for food, netting, pollution, and fishing.

The dolphins beak/rostrum is also a very powerful weapon, and some scientists have suggested that dolphins can kill a shark by ramming it in the belly.

A dolphins’ long nose helps them kill sharks
Their heart beats slower while diving, and their blood goes away from other parts of the body and goes to their heart, lungs, and brain. Another way it saves oxygen is in its muscles. The muscles have a special protein called myoglobin. Myoglobin stores oxygen.
Blubber (fat) helps the dolphin stay warm in cold water. The blubber also streamlines the body and helps it swim quickly and smoothly. The dolphin breathes from its blowhole and closes the blowhole before entering the water so water will not come in.

they have blubber which allows them to keep body heat
have a slower heartbeat when diving to allow them to dive for longer
when diving, their blood is redirected mainly to important organs like heart, brain and lungs where oxygen is needed
muscles contain myoglobin which stores oxygen which helps when diving
they have an extremely sleek body which makes them move more quickly through the water
they shed their skin very often which allows it to remain moist, streamlined and clean.
the top of their body is darker (to make it look like the dark depths of the ocean) than the bottom of their body (looks like the sunlit surface)
they use echolocation - a sonar echo which allows them to make a sound picture of their surroundings
