Upsy Daisy,
You are 100% ccorrect. My husband and I are quite frankly going through one of the toughest times in our lives and because he makes a tiny bit more money the government wont help us with our medical needs and that is flat wrong. I suffered with a bonafide depression for 8 months and it $ucks, looking for a job for months upon months and can only do babysitting for now it really was a blow to me being I was in the insurance industry for 12 years which included raises, a promotion and bonuses as well. Some people need a good kick in the backside and become more compassionate and loving because of they were the ones going through a hard time they would cry and howl about it and none of us would ever hear the end of it as the old adage goes some people don't take it as good as they give it. Also some of the laziest people that I EVER met where the ones who went to work showed up and did the very least amount of work when it was time for them to go home they ran out of the office so fast that their pants had to catch up with them. Thank you for posting this this was awesome I am very proud of you. People are so judgmental ignore them and live your life to the fullest.:)

If you have a valid disability, you should be able to provide some valid documentation. If you can, then the law is on your side and you can file a complaint.
Depression that is so severe that you can not concentrate should be under treatment of some kind. Lots of people get depressed and can still concentrate.
There are people who do use disability as a an excuse for not achieving as much as they can - and there are people who pretend to be disabled to get accommodations they really don't need. Protections exists so people who need accommodations get them. The system doesn't always work, but it is trying to.

Apryll1121, you say that you can't use your disability to get breaks on a test. If you are referring to a person in a wheelchair who is physically disabled, then yes, you are correct.
However, if you have attention deficit disorder, then you most certainly can get extended time on tests and frequent breaks.
To answer the original question, YES, it is discriminatory. It is a violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act. If you have a disability that was diagnosed by a doctor and you have the documentation; and your accomodations are medically necessary and reasonable, then you are legally protected under the ADA. If someone is denying you accomodations, then you should talk to a lawyer who specializes in disability rights, because they are breaking the law.

What kind of accommodations are you asking for? I think there is a place to draw the line.
If you are asking for a ramp to get your wheelchair into a testing center then yes you should be allowed that concession. If you are asking for a break every 30 minutes during a 9 hour bar exam so you can get fresh air and using your disability as the reason, then no its not, and shame on you for attempting to use it.

It's really not shallow minded, it's more ignorance. Most people think depression is something you "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" and get over it. They honestly don't understand and cannot comprehend it.
You need to be your own advocate. Contact you local Independent Living Resource Center and schedule an appointment.
