While highly unprobable, friendship between a man and a woman is totally possible.

My best friend and I have known each other for at least 12 years, admittedly the first three and a half was based on relationship but since we separated in 1999 we have been close friends.
I do believe man and woman can be friends without the sex.

Absolutely. I have several close male friends, I haven't had a sexual relationship with any of them and don't ever intend to. One in particular is like a brother to me and who wants to snog their brother!
However, if you are in a relationship with someone then it can be difficult to maintain those friendships with the opposite sex. Partners, especially in the early days of a relationship, sometimes find it difficult to accept. Sometimes you have to cool those friendships for a little while until your partner realises there is no threat. My ex-husband had great difficulty accepting that I was best friends with a guy who not only had been my next door neighbour for 25 years, but we'd been in the same class all through school.
However, I've found that these boy/girl friendships are easy to maintain. There is no envy, no rivalry, no petty jealousies and they are so much fun!

There have been a lot of very beautiful and substantial friendships between men and women. I think perhaps it might be about respecting the person and valuing them for who they are, and not having to jump into bed with the woman simply because she is a woman.
I have a lot of fabulous female friends who I have known for years, and I am sure a lot of other men have as well.

Of course. Most of my friends on here are gay men and I'm a straight female, and I even have straight male friends.
There is no sexual agenda going on with any of them. I'm married and love my husband. My gay friends are not interested in women and my straight male friends well I would hope they don't have any designs on me.
I enjoy the company of men as much as I do the company of women.
Men and women have similar but subtlely differing views of the world.
Why should I limit myself to just one gender for my friendships? There are many things I can learn from both sexes.

Yes of course we can be friends with someone of the oposite gender. Either that or I have about 15 guys who've been waiting to give me one for about ten years. LOL
Ye Gods thats a scary thought.
But seriously, I'm in my mid thirties, female and married, but most of my friends are male and most of them are straight. Hubby has mostly female friends. When we first got together we looked at each others set of friends and laughed, jealosy was not an option.
Don't get me wrong I Love my friends, male and female, just not that way.

Of course is possible. We are human beings and we are educated to not only respond to instincts. Under that premise of course men and women can be friends. Men are not sexually attracted to all women they meet just like all women won't fall in love with their friends or be sexually attracted to them. But for sure there is attraction to some extent because being friends means you can sympathise and empathise with an individual and you feel comfortable with that person but not necessarily that you'd get romantically involved with the other regardless sexual orientation.

Of course, why not? Do you think people can only make friends with those of the same gender? What a boring life that would be.
I get along much better with men (except welsh men, who don't get along with anybody because they only grunt). All other men I find alot easier to be friends with than women. Women are actually quite difficult to be friends with.
