It's for a class project and its about making instruments from bamboo and nothing else. If you have some ideas or actually know how to make one that sounds right please answer. Thanks.

Pick a large piece of dried bamboo. The thicker the side (guage) is the better. It should be about 4 foot long and about 3 - 4 inches across.
Find a piece of rebar (the metal pole the put into house foundations) or something similar and gently ram out the inner dividing segments down the middle of the bamboo.
You dont just blow into a didgeridoo or it is just like a straw. The only way I can think of how to explain it is to say that you hum with your lips and blow out at the same time. An old aboriginal man also told me that to do it well, you also have to learn to blow in and out at the same time to produce the full on sound.
Good luck

I'm from Australia and not Aboriginal but i don't believe bamboo is the traditional material used. We are taught in schools that it is an instrument, sacred and for men of the tribe to play not women. It is similar to playing a trombone and i can only suggest hollowing the banboo, into one long cylinder and hope that you can get a good sound out of it.
Have you thaought of maybe making a recorder style instrument with a thinner piece of bamboo.

I assume that whatever you make, you have to play. Try Yahoo under PVC FLUTE. It gives complete building instructions. You could probably adapt the same thing to bamboo and stand a chance of being able to play it.
