The engine starts OK but when sitting at low speeds seems to start running badly and also stalls when breaking.
The timing and carby seems to be set up OK ( Holley 600 dp )Vacuum seems ok and leads are good.
There is oil deposits above the threads of the plugs but the engine dos'nt look like it's burning any oil.
Does anyone have any idea's

verify the choke plate is huge open whilst the engine's warm. you may "examine" the spark plug pointers to study for acceptable combustion interior the cylinders (Autolite hyperlink under). examine the intake manifold vacuum. that is going to likely be above 18 inches or so for a popular 350 and could be stable. The mid Eighteen Eighties 350 distributor had the ignition coil integrated into the cap and it replaced right into a actual soreness to attempt. i could replace over to an o.e.m high quality distributor that makes use of a separate extreme voltage ignition coil. determine which you do use the popular AC spark plug distinctive for the engine and once you get rid of the plugs, do an excellent cylinder compression and leak down attempt to study for engine issues. GM nevertheless has "dazzling engine" purifier obtainable to bathe carbon from the engine. Set the idle a splash larger until you get it idling extra useful. of direction the timing must be acceptable or it would desire to reason a coarse idle. determine which you do plug off the vacuum develop on the distributor whilst placing the timing at idle. Ain't that distributor exciting to get to? Ford placed them up front for you. and since the respond above suggested, the inventory 350 valve covers consistently leaked, so i bought heavy accountability aftermarket covers and race type silicone encased reusable steel valve conceal gaskets which would be torqued a splash without distorting. you may desire to easily replace the previous cork type gaskets with an excellent Mr Gasket silicone set, yet there would not look adequate bolt carry downs on the inventory valve covers and you finally end up over torquing the bolts to compensate. a extra effective conceal helps distribute the stress over the gasket floor.

Check the float setting on that Holley. I finally got fed up with having to adjust them and went to an Edlebrock.

sounds like a vacuum leek i think the brake booster, to test this is easy clamp off the line to the brake booster to see if the car runs better and press the brake to see if it stalls now
