I want to live somewhere where you can still leave your house and car unlocked - does a place still exist?

I live in the city and have had enough of living like a prisoner in my own home. My kids cant play in the front yard and we barely have a back yard. I want to live where you can still leave your doors unlocked and your windows open and leave the keys in the ignition of your car like when i was a kid. I dont think there is such a place anymore but maybe someone can tell me there is!

Thanks to those who made me feel better for my current state of unhappiness! I dont have it so bad - I could have no home at all!!!! And yes its true, its better to be safe than sorry.....

Unfortunately, these places are slowly going away.

Cars today have those freaky sounding alarms nobody pays attention to...what a waste!

My two cars are open outside my home.

They are old enough so nobody wants them, and reliable enough to make me the happiest man on earth.

The places you yearn for are still around, just look in areas about a hundred miles from major cities.

Some are so quiet and charming that you will quickly adapt and feel in tune with nature as mankind was supposed to be.

I saw the light twenty five years ago.

Wouldn't life be great if we could go back in time? The days of leaving your doors open and keys left in the car are over.

I live in the North Woods and a lot of people think "oh, that would never happen to me." Surprise, surprise ..... it does. There are not only "good" people around. It's just part of reality.

I was born and raised in the city. We had our good times, we had our not so good times. I'm grateful for where we live now, but that doesn't mean you're going to go through life untouched. Burglars can either run through alleys or run through the woods.

When we left the city, we never looked back. No matter what, I'd never leave and go back to the city.

I'll pick listening to the Loons on the lake in the summer anytime. Even listening to the coyotes is better than listening to the police chasing (red light & siren) someone for God only knows what. Husband did just that for way to many years.

I thank the stars (yes, we can see them) for being who I am and what we worked so hard to get. We still lock the doors and don't leave the keys in the car.

I always say, to each his/her own. Many people would never think of changing places with us. They love to live in the city and that's OK too.

If you're tired of living the way you are now, then think of making some changes. You never know what you loose until it's gone. If you can't make the changes now, then start saving those "bucks" now so you can make those changes later.

Got to go now. Have to look at the stars and the full moon.

Yeah there are several places like that left in the US. The question is are you willing to live without all the convenience of the city for a town where you have to drive at least 30 minutes to buy the your groceries? I do live in a town like that on about 24 acres and have no problem leaving the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked, the down side is that 30 minute drive to civilization especially when the price of gas is about $3.00 a gallon and a 4x4 is a necessity, especially in the winter. Don't look for a "place". Look for a neighborhood. I live in a medium sized city, on a regular street and have never locked my car or house. I have even gone to bed and forgotten to SHUT my front door. All the neighbors watch all over the street at all hours of the day and night. 6 blocks away it is a different story, but I don't live there. When you do move, buy the neighborhood, as well as the house.

I was about to write something sarcastic like: 'yes where the fairies and elves live' however as i kept reading I realised that yes there is such a place.

I grew up far north of Melbourne (Australia) on 30 acres of land. My closest neighbor was a 5 min walk away. We never had to lock anything up or lock the cars! I played outside in the garden all day as a kid and the only thing my mum had to worry about was snakes in the grass!

I'm realising that I took it for granted - this city living is depressing after all! Thanks for making me think about this!

Two places , West coast of New Zealand or MacKenzie High Country, Both places in the South Island or the best is Stewart Island , at bottom of South Island. If their is a crimminal down there they got 40km of Fouveaux Strait to swim and it only averages 3 m swells but the people are tops

I live in a very small Texas town and I don't remember the last time I locked my house when leaving or even at night when I go to bed.We have a sheriff and 2 deputies that takes care of the whole county and a constable that drives around all night checking on things. My house sits on a quarter of an acre like everybody else and I hate mowing it. Everybody knows everybody else and what's happening in your life. (Sometimes even before it happens.) LOL

Derrinallum Victoria....I worked at my uncles milk bar there and we had to make a delivery we drove there (they wern't home) but the door was opened so we could take there delivery in and we put it all in there fridge..Its a small but great little town.Everyone trusts each other and you can leave you car unlocked to lol
