6 years.....I quit work when I was pregnant with my eldest. Once my youngest starts full time school next year I'm going back...eek!! Kinda scary!

I was unemployed for four months, and after not having claimed any state benefits whatsoever in the previous 30 years and having paid A LOT of income tax, I was paid a miserly £50 per week. Despite making intense efforts to get back into work, the Benefits Agency threatened to stop paying this piffling amount after the end of 6 months!
I did not even get an income tax refund.
To cap it all, shortly after I returned to work I got a demand for £500 from Inland Revenue relating to my previous job, for the benefit of changing from one (used) company car to another (used but slightly more expensive) company car.
Several years later I found myself unemployed again, by this time I had also taken a part-time job and the Benefits Agency deducted some of my benefits in view of this.
In my opinion the whole state benefit situation stinks.
I suppose it really is just my bad luck that I'm not a gay, coloured, illegal immigrant single parent.

Too embarrassed to say. A long time. I took on lots of voluntary work to try to get somewhere and it didn't help. I'm not employable at the moment. I'm not well enough. Thank god my girlfriend works.
