No, there is not a national helmet law coming into to effect October of 2007. However NSTB and NHSTA are both pushing far another helmet mandate in the next Highway bill. You can learn much more on this and related topics at http://www.bikerezine.com

Another interesting note for those free at heart: Helmet laws are extremely difficult to enforce. When I ride I decide and I fight any tickets in court. http://www.fastfreds.com/victory/index.htm

No. There is a big mouth nanny stater in the transportation department running around the country on our tax money, trying to convince the free states to pass helmet laws. But helmet laws are a state function. Join ABATE if your state has one. A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments. Help keep American free. Safer crashing is not the answer.

No, the Feds only recommended a national helmet law, it is unlikely that would every fly, but who knows?

My opinion on hemets:

Wear one always.

My opinion on helmet laws:

Never protect a person from themself!

Straight up, I NEVER ride without my helmet, but I wholeheartedly believe the government should stay out of it, it is none of their business protecting people that don't want protection. Let the helmetless people die, if that is what they choose, just like excessive smokers. They know it isn't safe, they decide for themselves!

I work for a towing company, and there have been brains in all the shovels used for cleaning up the wrecks, enough said!

No, there is no new helmet law for all states.

Now as to the question as to wear or not to wear. I believe that this is a personal choice. The less the government tells me what I have to do for my own good the better.

No.
It would be a very sticky situation. Remember the Federal 55 mph law? Repealed. The individual States have rights. The Federal government cannot supersede them.

However, politicians are very sneaky animals. We don't really know what they have done until after it is written.

I heard on the news that the Federalis want states to enact helmet laws or face losing their highway funds. I couldn't find anything about it on the internet though. If that happens ABATE, AMA, or any other organization won't be able to do a thing about it. We'll all be wearing brain buckets.

The Helmet Laws vary from state to state. Go to your state's DOT web page and check it out.

REGARDLESS OF THE LAW ---- WEAR A HELMET!

law or no law- I think for your own safety while riding a bike it is better you put on a helmet. It is better to have one on your head than not have one when you 'crash', and that crash could happen anytime-anywhere ;-)
