What do you think is the better measure of greatness: the number of records held or the number of championships won. On the one hand you have Dan Marino but would he be greater than Joe Montana or Terry Bradshaw?

Finally, do you think greatness is synonymous with best? As an example, I would consider Joe Montana the greater quarterback because of what he achieve, but I think Steve Young was the better quarterback and was denied greatness because of the team around him (keeping in mind they both had great careers, won championships, and played on great teams).

James: I think you're spot on about Peyton Manning, but he's not there yet. Given what he's accomplished so far, it's hard to imagine where he'll be if he stays healthy for another 7-8 years.

Peyton Manning. His team has went to the playoffs in 7 of his 9 seasons. He hasn't missed a start in his career (147 regular season games). He has a career 64% completion%, 38,500 yards, 280 touchdown passes, 140 int., he has won a superbowl, 2 MVP awards, he holds the single season record for the most t.d. passes with 49, & he's only 31 years old. When he retires he will be regarded as the greatest quarterback to ever play in the NFL

I think it is best for me to answer the question with a lot of questions.

What quarterback had the most positive impact on the entire sport? Who brought the most attention to the sport in a positive light?

In my opinion...Dan Fouts of the San Diego Chargers was a great quarterback. He made the position electrifying...without winning any championships. The 1981 Playoff game in Miami against the Dolphins was exhilarating.

That is a difficult question as each quarterback for each team in a different time period brought different contributions of excellence to the game.

What about Archie Manning as the greatest quarterback? His children (Peyton Manning and Eli Manning) are contributing excellence to the game presently. (I like the TV commercial where Archie is teaching Matt Leinart when his kids walk into the back yard and he tells Peyton and Eli Manning that he always wanted a leftie...That is such a cool commercial.)

Is that currently a better contribution than Joe Montana? (Although it seems that Joe Montana also has two children looking forward to filling his shoes by what they are accomplishing in High School Football...) Can that be thought to be a measure of greatness? Is teaching talents to others' greater than the measure of personal achievements?

I hope I have all of you thinking "outside of the box" now. This was a cool question to respond to.

God bless you all and Jesus Christ is Lord

C'mon, this is an easy one. Hands down, Joe Montana, followed by Steve Young... and no, it's not just because I live in San Francisco, either. I do think Brett Favre is right up there, but I don't feel 'the greatest quarterback of all time'.

Hands down Brett Favre.. he plays through pain, don't ***** and moan about things, motivates his team, is a real down to earth guy and has overcome so many things and still keep his head in the game (ex- wife with breast cancer, father dying, the vicodin incident just to name a few) And he truly loves the game.. he's been playing for many years and still looks like a kid out there and gets excited like it's his first year.

Brett "The toughest Man" Favre! Try this: start 240 consecutive games as a QB!!!! He gets hit and injured but he is out there playing on every Sunday! He is the best!

I think it boils down to which QB played because he loved the game and did what he could to lead his team. A QB who never gave up, always pushed themselves and never was detrimental to them self or the team they are on. a QB who didnt go to where the most $$ was, and QB who didnt sign every endosrement they can find to put $$ in their pocket. A QB who knew their job and did it well and excelled at what they did. So in my opinion here are my top QB's

Farve
Montana
Marino
Young
Bradshaw

WORST QB's

Vick
Leaf

Favre. Which QB has the NFL Record for ...Favre. You don't even have to finish the question. He will own them all by the time he is finished which is unbelievable.

Johnny Unitas was the first great quarterback. He set the bar. It was his shoes that everyone else had to try to fill.
