Teachers have found the secret to looking intelligent:
1.) Concentrate on one area and do not talk about anything outside that area for you may look stupid.
2.) Only ask questions you know the answer to.
3.)If you flunk jocks, you will have them return the following year, and the next and the next... etc.
4.) enjoy the sound of your own voice because after 5 minutes noone will still be listening but they will assume you know since you are still talking.
5.)When making a test, put some questions on to make everyone look stupid and you will feel more needed and have job security. Chances are if your superiors look at the test they will think you are irreplaceable since they don't know the answers.
Hope this helps... from a former teacher. LOL

They are teaching from the books and teachers guides given to them. I know my History teacher in the 8th grade was a coach, we watched more golf films than we did the history work. But that was a long time ago. So now they have to use what is handed to them. The tests are also from the guides.
As far as athletes, I don't know, but the jocks are supposed to be getting the same thing if not, their loss later on. They will probably end up working as a garbage man, or sewer cleaner later in life. That is about all the smarts they will have, while the rest that studied hard, and did well, will get good paying clean jobs.
Most of the jocks I knew in school ended up working in hay barns shoveling manuer, out west where I come from.

Interesting question. If it's outside of their specific area of teaching, you can trust that your teachers do in fact NOT know it all, and in fact what you're hearing are opinions, maybe strong opinions, but opinions none the less. If it's within their field of expertise, then I'm quite sure they know more than most of the students, and more than the other teachers in the building. Math teachers know math beyond what the english teachers know, and your high school Literature teacher knows more about the classics than anyone else in the school, because they live with these books every year.

Teachers don't really know everything. Its just that they have an expertise and have bits and pieces of other things to know about relating to their expertise. I used to teach most of the major computer subjects in school but when it comes to the details of networking, I would really advise that they pass that to someone else who really knows the stuff. As for the other major courses I taught, well, when I was a new teacher, I just come in prepared until eventually, I got to internalize them and know them by heart making me more confident. Students appreciate this because they would then look at you as an inspiration to become a better person. =) Hope this clears things out.

They don't know everything, but they do usually know their subject matter. The tests should cover the material discussed in class and in the textbook. If you can't cope with that, maybe you should start planning on being a homeless bum.

I don't think I know it all. ACTUALLY when I don't know the answer to a question a student asks....I say..>LET's look on the INTERENT.
MAYBE it has more to do with the way you treat teachers and others. Teachers like to be repected too. WE ARE PEOPLE

They want to know if you know what they are teaching you. Being "book smart" (classroom educated) is way different than being "street smart" (wise).
Your attendance record has little relationship to your knowledge of classroom material.

compared to 99999/100000 pupils they know it all - and they know what it costed to them to spend several years in the University - in France eg they are recruited among the best ones after several days-tests - with very small quotas -

i think they need to put a facade that they know everything so the students would have confidence and trust them. i could be wrong, though.
