Ive taken 2 Midols already and im still feeling bad. Ive never had cramps like this before. Normally my back hurts and i cramp up a little. I mean, should i be concerned enough to see my gyno?? I dont have insurance and its sooo high for a visit plus whatever else happens. I just want some advise for what else could i do to make the pain go away. I tried a hot bath to soak in and laying down. NOTHING is working. I was in tears earlier. The advise will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks a bunch!

The treatment for Extreme Menstrual Cramps is as follows:
1.- Mefenamic acid (Ponstel)
- 500mg orally initially followed by 250 mg every 6 hours for 2 or 3 days. This should be taken after food.

2.- Midol
- 2 every 6 hours orally.
Please contact me if you have any doubts and/or problems.

It's no fun at all when you're in pain with that extreme period cramps and no pain killers seem to help. I would recommend having a warm bath or warm shower or trying to apply a heat pack to your lower abdomen and try to sleep/rest. Keeping still and resting (especially when applying heat) can help. If the pain persists before you can get to a doctor I would recommend trying 2 more midols (however make sure that you're taking it as prescribed or as per the instructions).

I would recommend seeing your doctor/gyno as extreme period cramps like that isn't normal.

Good luck, I hope it settles soon and it's nothing serious.

Severe cramping needs to be evaluated by a gynecologist. Because of the financial issue check to see if your city's health dept offers a free women's clinic that might be able to help you with this. In the mean time, you can try increasing your level of iron by eating things like spinach, raisins, and peanut butter (if not allergic to peanuts of course).
