7% here just north of Atlanta.
1% of that is a local option sales tax that is voted on by our county every couple of years to pay for improvements, schools, and parks in the county. It is a popular tax.

Illinois
6.25%
1% on groceries (not counting pop etc)
city of Watseka
another .75% making total 7%
Indiana has no sales tax on regular groceries
that's why i go there to buy a lot of things
it's only about 12 miles
i go to Kankakee for a lot of things that would be 7 %
don't make a special trip for a few things, usually go once a month and stock up - plus there is an aldi's there
Kankakee is about 30 - 35 miles depending on what side of town you need to go to

In Michigan there is no tax on unprepared food (food from a store grocery store), but if it's made for you (like at a restaurant) then it's 6% along with everything else. When I was a kid it was 4%
