Have you heard this quote before?

When Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in April 1968, Robert F. Kennedy made an impromptu speech in Indianapolis, honouring him and calling for the US to unite together, not be divided.
And he said this:

My favorite poet was Aeschylus. He wrote: "In our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart until, in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God."

I think this was very fitting for Bobby, since he had lost his brother only a few years ago and had gotten to be clsoe friends with MLK - and two months later MLK's death, Bobby was dead himself. I find it very darkly ironic thus... and it's a shame we had to lose 2 of our greatest leaders within a year.

You bring back memories of terrible times and an American tragedy(ies).

Did we really once have leaders whose favourite poets were Aeschylus? Now we're amazed if they can tell the difference between Austria and Australia.

I like the quote. Anyone who has suffered knows what it means. Those whose suffering is yet to come may not fully comprehend but still feel awe and compassion for such a painful way of acquiring wisdom.

I am glad that some people can still be moved and understand poets who use the word awful in its original meaning.

Thank you for the quote and the little reminder of our recent history.

i think of large canines can come from the two way, bred on purpose with an excellent breeding application, or born to 2 street mutts. I additionally think of the different is genuine, some canines are purely not good canines from the start. In those circumstances, no volume of love, socialization and/or coaching will treatment. A pig in a silk tournament remains a pig.
