I will start a new job, which i may not have access to the internet, so some of my friends (webby, Kate, Aussie, Halamabra, Chloe, Smutty, Silky, Belier, Hasafer, Pinky, Reiko and Numbs, Halawa, Nadz, Lord )decided to chip in some money and send them to me so that i could buy a NEW laptop (since i don't have one).

So is it right to accept the money?? and if yes, should i ask for more than what they have in mind??

*dances* I'm not in the list!!! Woooo!

In that case, yes, accept all the money, and more...

Your friends are being very kind to you, and the only way to show them how much you appreciate the gesture is to drive them all into bankruptcy :D

They're your friends, so don't take advantage of them.
But if they want to help you out, don't refuse generosity. If it's a group thing, they've obviously thought it out. I definitely wouldn't ask for more than what they initially offer. If you'd like to chip in some money of your own (it is a laptop for you afterall), to get something a bit nicer than what they have in mind, then offering to do that wouldn't be a problem.

Either way, as long as you're obviously grateful, things shoudl work out, they obviously think alot of you to go to so much trouble.

Till your friendship last, it is OK to accept money or expensive gifts from non intimacy friends, ounce your friendship goes sour for any reason they will shoot at your face that you had nothing we gave you a (laptop) you remember, I would not take anything that i can not afford or return the favor at the present time.

I agree wholeheartedly with carpensi's response.

It's okay for you to accept their money to buy a laptop, but don't ask them for more than they offer you. If it's not enough, save your own money to cover the rest of the costs.

Yes, it's right to accept the money for a gift. No, you should ask only what you need so you won't take more money than needed.

Wow! talk about a manipulative tactic and a guilt trip to boot on top of it. To trick your freinds into giving you money and shame them in front of everyone else if they don't, that is so low. You should be ashamed of yourself young lady. How do you sleep at night...

Oh and sure, I'm in. How much do you need?

A gift is a good personal thing. Asking for money is a business thing. As a gift take what they give you, but if you ask for more, it is no longer a gift, now is it?
