As answers above, fish come in male and female varieties.
As far as males getting pregnant... actually this does happen in Seahorses. The female deposits her eggs in the male (using an ovipositor rather than a penis!) and the male fertilises them in his body and grows the embryos.

No a fish bowl isn't ok, nothing can live in a bowl. Your fish will probably be unhealthy, stressed out, and die young if you maintain it in there. You are going to desire a tank that can be filtered and heated (all fish need filters, betta are tropical and require heaters), ideally as a minimum 5 gallons. In the event you get a bigger tank like 10+ gallons that you can put different matters in with him. In addition they like reside vegetation, but if you do not need these you should utilize silk ones. In the beginning you must exchange about 30% of the water each couple of days due to the fact the tank might be biking (you should get a test package so you recognize when its done). After the cycle you will have to do 30% water alterations about once every week, use a gravel vacuum to scrub the backside. Feed him only a couple portions of meals at a time once or twice a day. If there is any uneaten food take it out immediately and feed less. You should simplest feed him 6 days of the week.

Not all fish are male, the females get pregnant. The males tend to be the more brightly coloured ones.

Fish are female and male sexed. Females carry eggs that they lay on top of the water and males carry sperm that they use to fertilize the eggs. It's a crap shoot sometimes as to what sex your fish are...but if you see a bunch of little foamy things on the top of your water, they're probably fertilized eggs. Most likely the fish will eat them, but some may hatch.

I recently read somewhere that fish can change sex, so what was a male could change to female and vice versa but there are both.
