why not just humans? what does the "being" have to do with it? you never hear of any other animal being referred to as "beings"?

On the contrary, many societies refer to animals as beings. Just because YOU don't, doesn't mean that others don't.

We are called humans because we are from the humus, the organic humid or moisty part of the earth soil.
We are called beings because we are existing entities, because we "be".
Animals are also referred to as to beings, as individual animal beings, beings in some way, being the member of a genus and of a species of animals, of beings that generally move about. The word animal means being with a soul.
As we human beings also have a soul, an anima, also we are animals! Just a lot more sly and more nasty than all the wild beasts!
You might simply look all this up in a dictionary of etymology, or for instance in a normal Webster's Dictionary.

I'm going to go with what Amp was saying but take it from another angle. It's true that we are all "spiritual beings temporarily housed within human mortal bodies. We are more than our bodies. We are souls. It is the being inside that matters." However, Christ made sure that humans are more active in body, mind, & soul more than an animal is. An animal doesn't have to concern themselves with what a human has to worry about because there are some different concerns from animals to a human. Humans have to "be" what Christ has made us -- we have to carry out what Christ wanted from us. Christ gave us examples on how to "be", so now it's time for us to carry out our end of the bargain.

I object to the word "being". I think we are more like human "doings". Really, how many times do you allow yourself to just exist? Just be.
We are constantly trying to DO something. Thus my suggestion: Human Doings
