I'm asking this is because i'll like to surf internet in the living room. But my main PC is in the study room with the internet wireless router.

Hi......Yes you can still surf the internet with your laptop even if your main pc shutdown.....I know this because I have had a pc and laptop connected before and I would turn the pc off and my laptop was just fine........So surf away.......Hope it helps.......=)

Yes. The internet router needs the wired connection to be set up, but it should be independent after that. You should be able to test it just by unplugging the cable from the PC to the router.

A clear YES.

I do this all time. I shut down my PC and let download in the night my Notebook Computer. You need to reset or power-off the Router to stop the internet.

Everybody who say now "no" is wrong. Trust me. I just sit at this moment direct in front of this PC and will close down in some minutes to go to sleep.

Yes.I use a netgear router and my laptop can still connect to the internet as long as i keep the router on.

it should work if the router is on, and how are you using the internet if it wasnt working?

your pcs run in parallel
both work independent of each other.
