* The pain comes in knowing we are dying! The concept of death is not recognizable by animals! Therefore they cannot fear what they have no knowledge of!

Do you think that being chased down and eaten by predators while your heart is still beating to be less painful? Is living indoors during bad weather more painful? Is having food and water when we need it, instead of when it is available, more painful? If so then you need to make some drastic changes in your life. If you need to have more control over your life, then try "knowledge", it is the source of all power.

I know I am going to die, I just don't know how or when. Animals may know this, or not, but it doesn't matter much to them and it doesn't have to matter so much for us.

On a more physical level though. Most animals in the wild die while being killed or eaten by predators. Most human deaths are physically less painful.

You bring up an interesting point, but depending on your belief system, it may be a more comforting death than an animal.

People who have a strong belief in an after life do not fear death at all. Do not question it, I have known people in their old age that have had their spouse die, and actually look forward to dying... to be with them again.

So I guess it is all in your personal perspective.

I have pondered how it might be a much easier and maybe happier existence without being plagued by abstract thoughts. But who is to say what thoughts other animals might have? It is rather anthropocentric to say what animals know nothing. Is is possible that we know nothing?
Knowledge is not merely limited to language, mathematics and science.

Wow. You must be quoting Nietzsche....or someone of his ilk? This some sort of elaboration on the "ignorance is bliss" theory? I beg to differ.
Whatever "angst" that knowledge might bring us just can not compare to the rewards of seeking it out. Sure...the truth is not always "pretty" but it is not singular and it comes in many forms of spectacular beauty and grace.
To shun "knowledge" for some imagined "bliss" is itself an exercise in futility. We humans are very adept at making ourselves miserable regardless of what we do or do not "know."
Word.

I don't agree at all

Knowledge helps us to live more peacefully, to understand what is life, to know who we truly are.
There is no need to die a painful death.
With wisdom you live in love, and peacefully leave the body to join all that is.

Animals have intelligence.
It is on a basic level of survival.

If mans knowledge is only basic like the animal, then he may have a painful life which is based on fear, as he dosen't know love.

Kindly I say that animals know things.

Some animals struggle in death; other animals do not.

We, too, are animals.

Some of us struggle in death; others do not.

Knowledge is not the precursor for struggle; the lack of knowledge is often the cause of struggle.

It is only a human theory that animals know nothing....

Suggest you find the National Geographic show where the man lived on the outside of the wolf pack filming them for 3 years....

Then, THEY INVITED HIM IN. To their home, to play with their pups, to eat their food.

I happen to believe that animals know MORE than us. After all, humans are the only living thing that kills for pleasure and sport...
