I TEND TO BE TOLERANT AND SUPPORTIVE. I BELIEVE MOST OF US HAVE THE PROPENSITY TO BE ADDICTS OF ONE KIND OR ANOTHER. I AM ALSO TIRED OF HEARING PEOPLE SLAM DRUG USERS WHILE SWILLING THEIR BEER OR VODKA TO EXCESS. ALCOHOL IS BY FAR THE MOST DANGEROUS DRUG BUT MANY PEOPLE HAVEN'T GOTTEN THE MEMO ABOUT THAT.

I AM SADDENED BY THE DRUG EPIDEMIC IN THIS COUNTRY. BUT THAT IS A SYMPTOM OF OTHER THINGS IN OUR SOCIETY. WE HAVE MUCH WORK TO DO IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS A BETTER BETTER WORLD TO LIVE IN.

Hope and Pray but Stay Away...
no...
I talk to them like I do anyone else, I just hold my purse a little tighter when I'm walking in a well-known drug area and if I don't have a cigarette to spare, I won't hand one out...similar to zombie-ville, agh, run away!...
no...
I invite them to meetings that may enlighten them but mainly wish dearly that they wouldn't have to suffer so much due to a disease that has such a hold on them. It's terminal and the success rate is low.

Ex-addicts could be what you mean by recovering addicts. The disease is progressive so they can't go near any mind-altering drugs ever again without risk. And, if they are determined to stay away from drugs, one day at a time, they are the most special people you will ever meet. They are honest, sensitive and very caring because they themselves have been saved from so much!!!

I would stay away from drug addicts entirely. I'm not interested in being around someone who is ruining themselves. I would only hang with an ex-addict if they had been away from it for many, many years and had changed all their friends and were in a program, and even then I would be cautious.

The ideas that Ketherine and little ben are the reasons why drug addicts feel so helpless. We should be giving everyone a fair go, shame on both of you.

I have sympathy for them. I don't think anyone does drugs in the hope of becoming an addict one day. At the same time, you want to be careful if you have any type of personal relationship with one.

Dont want anything to do with an addict, not cuz i just hate them for what they do but because they cant be trusted. Ex addicts are usually ok...unless theyve only been clean a little while.

Unfortunately with the insurance issues our country has and lack of help for those without alot of money or well connected, I do feel bad for some of them. Funding for state hospitals was cut badly in the 1980s and things have only gotten worse since.

Why did they have to do it in the first place? That's my perception.

I think most people either "figure it out", die trying, or have some sort of epiphany combo-pack.
