If you want an adult circumcision, you need to see a plastic surgeon.

If your hospital won't "circumcise" your son, the best thing you can do is take the whole baby home and give him love, just like you would have done if he had been born a girl. And remember that a girl is ten times more likely to suffer urinary infections than your little guy with is his complete penis. If it happens to him the same antibiotics can be used for a boy as for a girl.

The risks of a complete boy getting a UTI is between 2% and 5%, the risks of complications of "circumcision" is 5% (complications imidiately apparent), however 10% of "circumcised" infants develop "Meatal Stenosis" a conditon which affects the opening of the penis and restricts urine flow, severe cases require a very painful surgery. Meatal Stenosis does not occur in non-circumcised boys.

Some insurance companies won't pay for it because they don't feel it's medically necessary, but I've never heard of a hospital refusing to do a circumcision (as long as they're paid). Ask at the hospital if they will beforehand and if the answer is no, you can try to find a different hospital or have the pediatrician do it at his office. But generally, it's done at the hospital before you go home.

If the hospital won't do it, maybe there is a very good reason. Such as the fact that it is totally unnecessary, painful for the child, and sufficiently likely to cause complications that they fear being sued. Circumcision is genital mutilation, and you would be well advised to accept the perfection that your new son will be, without any changes.

Please see http://www.cirp.org/library/procedure/plastibell/ -- is this really the way you want to welcome your baby into the world? The hospital's refusal has given you another chance to consider just why cutting off part of your son's penis is important to you -- please take advantage of this opportunity by reading everything you can on the subject.

All the best to you and the little guy.

Although I respect your wishes, you could consider foregoing it. My family stopped circumcising 21 years ago, and none of my male family members have had any problems with their bodies or with attracting girlfriends.
And you won't have to worry about possible slip ups, infections, or cleaning the wound...and it's really painful for the baby. If you decide to go ahead, ask for a safe painkiller for the surgery and afterwards, so your little one won't suffer so...

Why is it you want to do the circumcision anyway? If it's not for religious reasons (at which point it's easy to find someone), there's really little conclusive proof that it's necessary.

Home and shout for joy.

Have you considered why the hospital will not perform the operation? It's hardly because it is good for the child. It is an ethical question.

Talk to your pediatrician. He will most likely do it. If all else fails, call around to other hospitals and talk to other pediatricians until you find one that will do it. But I think I know what you're talking about. Some hospitals won't do it, while if you talk to your pediatrician the he will do it. You can set it up to be done at his first appointment.
