80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

The meaning of life is built by the living individuals. For a house dog, it might be eating, sleeping, playing, and being a good pet. Or for an athlete, it would be being healthy and setting a world record. We are here because we simply exsist, either from God or natural creation. Each person has a different meaning of life, as each person has a different career or passion to pursue.

While I'm in "general" agreement w/ Xin Yao, my faith dictates that God has a specific purpose for me in life. I've been given free will to fulfill that purpose, or not. To choose to ignore that purpose, however, takes the meaning from my life. W/o that duty to God being fulfilled, I'm merely taking up space & wasting time & resources. If I choose to be nothing more than a bad example, God (in His wisdom) will pass the privilege of having a purpose on to someone else. The redundancy of our population & talents makes this possible. Use me, Heavenly Father.

Plastic. The meaning of life for humans is plastic. The universe needs us to create complex synthetic materials that would not occur in this locality of space/time without large amounts of electromagnetic warping.

Life does not have a meaning, only a nature.

The nature of life is to collect energy, reproduce and defend itself.

We are here because a great many lifeforms acted according to their nature.

So get a job, find a mate, and defend yourself. Or go emo till someone puts you out of your misery.

As a group we are an expression of an evolution toward another evolution.

As individuals we are here on each our own path. What that path is , is known only to you if you seek to find it.

It is a miracle,no?

The Biblical book of Ecclesiastes deals with that question. But you need to read the entire book to get the answer. Actually a very amazing book of the Bible to read. Once you start reading you will want to keep going. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=25&chapter=1&version=31

I wouldn't make it the first book I read however. Try reading the entire New Testiment first then take a look at Ecclesiastes. That's just me, it's up to you. Dive in, enjoy!
