The "pain" is really a burning, intense pressure to push the baby out--kinda like having a BIG bowel movement. I had my first two all-natur-AL. It wasn't all that bad, honestly. I didn't cry or yell or scream--not once. As I was instructed by the nurses, I just kept focused on the Lamaze techniques I had previously learned in a class.

The pain varies from woman to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy. Just because one person experiences horrific contractions, doesn't mean you will. In fact, your labor might be a breeze that you never expected. Don't expect it to be bad. Even if it does end up being very painful, there's always things that can help alleviate that pain. Take a warm shower, sitting on the birthing ball. WALK during labor, it helps. Breathe, always be sure to breathe. The most important thing is to not give up. Let your body take control. It knows what to do.

The pain can feel like strong menstrual cramps or like an intestinal upset pain radiating throughout your entire abdomen. Some women experience the pain in their back, which is known as back labor.

Did you know that inductions actually causes stronger, painful contractions than a normal labor contraction? If you really want to avoid pain, refuse an induction with all of your might. Most of the time they fail to progress anyway and the woman ends up with a c-section. Now, we're talking at least 3 weeks of a potential, painful recovery.

The best thing to do during labor is to relax and get focused. Get focused on meeting your baby. Enjoy your labor. Its an experience that may not ever happen again. You want to make the best of bringing your child into the world for the first time. Don't focus on the pain. Remember, each contraction means the baby is that much closer to arriving. Don't worry, don't get tense, and don't fret. Women have been giving birth for years.

When its over, you'll experience euphoria and the pain will be so far from your mind once that baby is in your arms for the first time. Good luck!

Very early contraction feel like menstrual cramps. They get more and more intense and I guess the best way to describe it would be that your uterus feels like it is so strongly contracting that it might implode. Now for some women pushing the baby actually brings relief to the contractions and that process doesn't really hurt it just brings an amazing amount of pressure. My first child a girl, came out facing up instead of down which made me have almost double contractions, I felt the typical uterine contractions and also contractions in my lower back which are normal with a baby facing the wrong way. With my second (after a back injury) my doctor suggested I use the epidural because of my back and it was amazing.

When I was delivering my daughter I was repeating in my head over and over, get it out! With my son I wasn't in pain and was excited and was able to notice the tears in my husbands eyes and really be relaxed and not so exhausted when I held him the first time.

Many women will say that it is do-able without medication and that makes you more of a mother if you are willing to do it natural but guess what. I have done one completely natural and one with the epidural and the real mothering takes place after the baby comes home.

Good luck to you and your little one.

I got pregnant really young (16), I was tiny and very scared. After two hours of pushing I had have a c-section because my daughter was too big to fit (8lbs 14.5oz). I didn't get the epidural until they were prepping me for the c-section.

Since I don't know the actual experience of pushing the baby out, here's what I know about labor without the epidural:

-It varies from woman to woman. Everyone's experience is different.
-For me it felt like strong menstrual cramps. The first contractions small, then progressing.

If you decide not to get and epidural, walk around a lot! It helps you to stay focused and it helps labor progress much more quickly.

Try to relax and not worry about the upcoming "pain". It may not be too painful for you. Like I said, it varies. Some women find it unbearible, while others do not. I personally didn't think it was very painful.

When I was pregnant I was scared to death of giving birth! Not to worry my dear, its not that bad. I had an epidural when I was about 8cm. The contractions can be painful but it helps if you have someone with you to help you cope.If you get an epidural you dont feel a thing. So as for natural labor I dont know. But the pain I did experience was soon gone after I saw that beautiful baby.

get a book called "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth" by: Ina May Gaskin....it is a book full of beautiful positive birth stories in great detail written by many women....they describe labor with all intensity, beauty, and pain....it was really beneficial for me and helped to alleviate the fear from hearing the infamous horror stories from all of your well intending family and friends....and just a personal note, as long as i was not on my back, labor was incredibly bearable....i was on my hands and knees almost the whole time because that is what felt good to me....good luck, get the book.....it is a short, easy, and fun read EDIT: i had my first with an epidural and the subsequent three without any pain medication and i must say that it is my opinion that doing it natural is full of benefits and i can not stress the difference in the birth experiences i had and i hope that you research all that a natural birth has to offer and all of the setbacks that an epidural can cause

So much that you feel like you want to cry. It's excruciating. But I think that if you go into the labor process with this in mind, then you won't be surprised and you'll be able to prepare yourself better. It isn't like it cannot be done without an epidural or pain medication, though. It can be done. I did it.

Be sure to take Lamaze or another natural child birth preparatory training. Pain is relative. Childbirth pain is survivable. Breathing, focusing, efflurage - you get through it. Then it's over and you have a baby. I had a lot more pain the second time, but because I had the experience of having been through it I had confidence in my ability to handle it, and I did.

We are talking about unbearable pain here ok, it will not be something you can control on the contrary the pain will control you. You will be saying to yourself that you will never ever in your life have another child, you will be screaming maybe crying too in between. It's not going to be a pleasant experience until you actually see your child that's when all the pain you just went to will be put to the side because it was all worth it. The placenta hurts a lot too ok just so you know.
