I agree with the first person: no one deserves to be that poor. Even if their lack of money is their own fault, that doesn't mean their kids should have to suffer for it. I think as long as they stole from someone who was more well off, and if they intended to somehow repay them in the future, it's justified. If they were taking from someone barely any better off than them, they could lead the other person into the same situation, so I guess it mainly depends on who they're stealing from. But either way, whether they intend to pay the person back or not, their kids are innocent and should not have to suffer for their mistakes (or pure bad luck).

Well, I don't think stealing is ever right, and you will probably get bad karma for doing it....
but if someone is gonna do it, I feel like it's way more justified to steal from some greedy corporation like Wal-Mart or Target, than to do it from a small self-owned store. Think about it, how much will Target lose in the long run if you steal a bottle of shampoo?
And yes, I feel like if a poor person needs some fruit or bread or something for their children, they should steal it. It may be wrong, but it is a dog eat dog world.

I've stolen from the government and don't regret it. After my very long military career, the pension I was dependent on was taken away for some red tape reason and I had nothing. I was on unemployment while bartending for cash for a good part of two years while I was rebuilding my life. The government doesn't care about those at the end of their ropes, so I took advantage of a loop hole I found and would do it again if feeding my wife and I was on the line.

A long time ago as a child a police chief told me that the only excuse for stealing he could ever forgive was stealing to feed your hungry child. I find my heart is the same. Hurricane Katrina helped to reinforce this. I wanted all the looter rounded up that were stealing to just steal, but I new that out there in my city and surrounding parishes there were some he needed food to survive.

yes it does. acutally my socioligy teacher said something about this.
If a pie truck stops and a homeless man steals one pie so he can feed his starving family it's ok. But at the same time we are not willing to allow them to come into our house and start taking things out of our fridge. It's a matter of values actually. But yeah it is ok in my opinion.

Yes it can in extreme circumstances.
The jails are filled with people who think crime is justified. If I had to steal to feed my family I would be a piss poor excuse for a man.

It is so sad that American citizens actually do have to steal food to feed theirself or their children.
But, Yes!!! If my children were hungry and I couldnt find a decent person to help me feed them, Yes , I would steal food for my children.
This question actually has me in tears.
It is so sad that there are human beings that have to eat trash or steal food to eat.
Such a sad and selfish world we live in.

I think it was certainly justified during hurricane Katrina. I can not think of another situation where it would be justified. There are government programs that offer food to people in need. People who are not motivated enough to seek government assistance are not given a pass to steal. Sorry, just my honest opinion.
