So today at 6AM, I turned on my comp. to review a report for school. W/n 15 minutes of reading it, my comp suddenly shuts down. I let it go as a "overheating power supply" Once I get back from school 8 hours later, I find that my comp. still isn't turning on. I've tried, restarting it, unplugging the main cord, but nothing has worked so far. I'm reasoning this as a dead power supply, but I may be wrong. Do you have any idea as to what could possibly be wrong w/ my computer.

Oh and I've had this dekstop for 4 years now w/ the same power supply. I'm not sure if I should get a new comp, or just get a new power supply.

I am definitely not a tech savvy person, so I probably won't be able to pop up the cover and see for myself the problem.

Question, if the power supply has come on when you started your computer, can you hear the fan running, hard drive making noise? Did you get a black screen with NTLDR? If you did, then your hard drive failed. It is quite possible that your power supply has failed, and just needs to be replaced. The power supplies are not that expensive and are easy to replace.

I've faced the same problem a few months ago

your powersupply is the problem
u need to change it and everything will be good
if not sure
open the powersupply box "after disconnecting the computer from any electricity source and wearing gloves to protect you from any shock"
look for any burned area inside this thing
if u found it
then it's the powersupply u need to change
otherwise u might be having a problem with your motherboard, turning on button or anything has to do with igniting the computer :P

hope this helps

I'd say power supply. Something similar happened to my old computer a while back. I open it up and BLAM burnt power supply. If you're hardware savvy, pop the hood and check it out, otherwise, get professional advice.

It pains me to suggest it - but it sure sounds like a crash. With that said - read this and see if it can help:
