There is a girl at work I used to be friends with but I withdrew myself because I found out that she has been using not only me but everyone who crosses her path. I had been avoiding for about a year now. Just speaking to her casually. I decided to go back to school this fall. Lo and behold! there she was in my class. Any how, we decided to talk because there is a group presentation coming up. The required text was unavailable for about a week now. It came into the bookstore on friday. Now she and her friend want to photocopy my text ($66) and pay me ($30) so she would only pay ($15). Seems like a deal but I am just pissed because I saw it coming......I knew that as soon as I got close to her she was gonna start asking for favours. How do I handle this without causing a conflict? I just want to get through the semester without any tension.

Just keep reminding yourself that you've played her games before. You know what she's like, you know how she corners you and cons you. So learn from your mistakes and dont repeat. You already know she's using you, you already know this deal is crap, and you know her history.
So a few options: Tell her you cant help her, your excuse, you really need your book and cant part with it. She can deal and they are other people in the class to work on presentations with.
Avoid her. Dont talk to her. YOU ARE NOT FRIENDS!! Friends dont use other friends, friends dont cheat them out and friends also look out for your best interests and are fair about it
And the only person this sounds like a deal to is her, cuz chances are she's told her friend she needs to shell out $20 instead of $15, or her friend will wind up paying for the whole thing cuz shes "broke" that day. Sound familiar? Dont fall into the same trap again!

That's copyright infringement and its illegal, but most people overlook that fact for a REAL friend. Do you think you could say something to the professor? Maybe he/she could announce to the class that they need to buy the text and not copy it from other students. I would stay away from this girl... next thing you know she will want to copy your homework and turn it in as her own. I can't stand users like her, try to avoid having any other classes with her

She's a user. You going to let her use you too. Tell her "No deal" sorry, get a copy from someone else. There's nothing in it for you and that's what she does. She can't use everybody and it should start with you. She'll just find someone else anyway, that's what users do, they move on to the next "victim"

Honestly, i would tell her yes, and to pay me when she gets the copy. then tell her you forgot to photocopy it right before the presentation or soemthing so she is screwed. she has is coming and deserves it. she relies too much of other people to do her stuff.

You tell her that you can't copy the book. If she needs to use it, you can meet together. That's mooching to the nth degree. Have you buy the book at full price, and then copy it for $15? Hell no.

I would just tell her no. If you let her mooch this time she will just keep it up. Seems to me that you should keep your distance from her anyway, she doesn't seem to be a very good person.
