I heard that, in a few short years, clean drinkable water will be the most valuable product in the world. I watched a film about the severe lack of clean water in India, and it does look like a very serious situation. With the glaciers melting into the ocean, it seems such a waste of good water! Can anything be done?

Before I even opened your question to read the remaining portion of you question I had IMMEDIATELY thought of water.
At one time, there was a plan to use powerful tug boats to move ice-burgs to the middle east where the water could be captured as the ice melted.
To the best of my knowledge, no one has done that.
Climate change is a fact of life. A thousand years ago, Greenland was quite hospitable to life, then it froze over. Looks like it is returning to its earlier state. I suspect ocean currents have a LOT to do with climate change.
Northern Canada and Russia may become the food producing lands of the future. The total land area will be reduced.
We need to curb our rate of population growth, or water shortages won't be our ONLY problem.

The number one most important natural resource is without a doubt COAL. Without it our world of convenience would deteriorate rapidly.......no TV, no refrigerators, no computers, no traffic lights, no washers or dryers, no anything ran by electricity, our lives would drastically change.....Currently we have a 250 year supply of coal...there are talks of CTF (Coal To Fuel) plants being designed.....IMAGINE NOT DEPENDING ON OTHER COUNTRIES FOR OIL!!!!

I remember this from college.

just like oil, water will never run out it will just become more expensive.

But unlike oil, water is completely renewable.

the problem with water is not how much, it's where it is, and water is expensive to move.

the answer is to have people move to the water.

Water conservation efforts... different techniques in farming and agriculture....different engineering (ie: not leading storm drains directly into rivers, lakes, and natural ponds).
