Do i put the the tip (top where it has center electrode) on the gauge?

This actually should be pretty easy, first you need to know the proper gap for your plugs, once you know that, you need to adjust the gap between the points at the top of the plug, not the end the wire connects to. the proper size should fit in and out-snugly. if you have a cheap ring type, it should be real snug, if you have.."feeler guages" it should be easy to fit. Old car huh?

You slide gauge in there, don't pry between tip and bent metal part of plug,don't force gauge in, there is a tool to change gap. You can use pliers (needle nose). most plugs come pretty close to the right gap.

The gap from the tip of the elctrode to the tip of the plug body is what you are measuring....it depends on the type of gauge you have....
