B N Real it is sad that relationships today seem to be so much like the rest of our society, disposable. If people argue they don't attempt to fix the problem but instead far too often throw in the towel. I recently married the love of my life and am very pleased to announce that we are very happy together and do discuss anything that is bothering us at the time, rather than allowing it to fester and explode later.

I just celebrated 26 yrs of marriage with my husband this month.
I can honestly say that 95% of the time our marriage has been happy. We have 5 grown Children and 5 grandchildren and #6 grandchild on the way. We are blessed.
ALL marriages have ups and downs, but it is up to the couple to decide if they wish to work through the down times or throw in the towel liks so many do now a days
To many couples just give up and don't try. Marriage is a 24 hour job, people forget that.
Thats my story and I am sticking to it!!

Yes, there really are couples out there that are happily married. My husband and I have been married for 14 years. We've never cheated on each other, we've never lied to each other, and we've kept all of our wedding vows. I'm not saying we have never fought, because God knows we've had some doozies, but we haven't had a fight in over 4 years. We communicate with each other honestly and openly, we respect each other, and we try to reach a happy compromise when we're at odds. We have faced many difficult situations in our marriage, but we've come through them all with our love and respect for each other intact. Marriage is hard work, but it's worth every ounce of work we've put into it. We give a lot of credit to our parents for our marriage working the way it does. They taught us as chlidren how to treat other people, and that has helped us a lot. I know that my husband and I will be together forever, because we know there is no obstacle we can't get over if we work together. I hope this answer has helped you.

I've been married for 26 years, sometimes happily, sometimes not. I think it is all in your attitude. Hollywood makes some people think that if it isn't all hearts and flowers every day there is something wrong. Marriage is good times AND bad times. You just have to be smart enough to know the bad times will pass and things can get better again. Most bail before it gets better.
However, there ARE some valid reasons for splitting. Cheating or beating are top on my list.

I am happily married almost 14 years.
People seem to forget that humans live twice as long as they used to. We used to grow up, raise our kids, then die. Now we live 40 years after the kids are gone.
I knew my husband for 5 years before we got married. In those 5 years I am supposed to know that this is the guy I want to spend the next 50-60 years with?
How is that even possible. It is more the exception than the rule that two people can sustain it that long. Life happens. As we grow older, our needs change. I am surely not the same person I was 14 years ago when I got married. For now we are walking on the same path, but I do realize that realistically, one of us could want to change direction at any time.
The happily ever after til death do us part sure sounds great, but realistically, It only holds true for a lucky few.

Happily married - yes. Easily done? - no
We have been together 10 yrs, married for 5 of those. 3 kids in tow.
I agree with you, people need to invest a hell of a lot into a marriage. Two people only get out of a marriage what they are willing to put in, so its no wonder so many end in separation.
We have a marriage that works because we want it to.Both of us.
Some times are really hard, so its not without its share of problems, but letting go of minor issues is my biggest piece of advice. So many people whinge about what their respective partner doesn't do and neglect to mention the things they have done.
I also think a lot of people expect marriage to be like a hollywood movie and its really, really not. A lot of time and effort goes in to making a marriage last and thats what my hubby and I are attempting to do.
Will it last forever?? I dunno, but I'll give it my best shot.

I am happily married to my second husband....You are very right in saying that if people invest more time, love, respect, communication, compromising and so on in ones marriage....their marriage would be a lot stronger. When you stop caring about these very things....the marriage starts to deteriorate.

My relationship with my hubby is great.
Has its moments when i wonder what im doin, but they are few and far between.
To many people give up when its to hard, but you really need to work at it, to make it work!
I agree with what you said about communication etc, if they invested more then maybe the divorce rate would be a lot less to.
Dont get me wrong.....some marriages cant be saved, but alot could be.

I too feel the same way you do about all the marriages seem to not be good. My marriage is not perfect but at least we are good to each other and love one another. I get depressed at times reading these questions about marriage. I hope everyone finds peace of mind.

A happy marriage is a blessing. My parents have been married for 52 years. They still hold hands, smile, tell each other how attractive they are, how much they love each other and .... have sex! They met when my mom was 11 and my dad was13. They taught me that happy marriage was extremely possible.
When I asked them their secret, they said, "You keep your mouth shut about the small stuff." They allow each other their differences and preferences. They are very patient with one another. And this grows love.
