I suspect it is a contingent conspiracy. If she gets elected, he will stand on the inauguration stand smiling as she takes the oath, and she will say nice things about him and thank him for his years of service. He will be invited to her inauguration ball, and they will be buddy buddy for a while.
But then I think all presidents and their successors have had that conspiracy. I guess they do make conspiracies like they used to.

I suspect he sees her running as the best chance the Republicans will get to win, but there is not going to be another Republican president.
