In Bangladesh, one starts studying for a bachelor degree in surgery and medicine right after completing higher socondary (high school / A level equivalent) education. It take sfive years of schooling in a med school and then one and a half years of rigorous attachemnt with a hospital. Therefore, you can say, after twelve years of education, one still needs a further six and a half years for an undergrad medical degree.

here in the philippines, 4 years. but before you can go to med school, you have to be a bachelors degree holder, and you need to pass the nat'l medical admission test, given on the months of april and december. it would be better if your 1st course is related to the medical field (like biology, pharmacy, nursing, and Physical Therapy). after med school, there's another 12 months for internship before you can take the professional licensure exams for physicians

Different types of doctors require different types of degrees. For example, a doctorate in optometry requires only graduate school (instead of med school) (according to my optometrist). And of course you have your standard doctor.
