I believe I have a mild form of depression and am always in a terrible mood. I did a quick research to find that St. John's may be helpful. I look on vitatmin shoppe's website and found this. Is St. John's wort helpful, or are there other products out there that you would recommend more? If you do recommend St. John's would you recommend the vitamin shoppe brand or do you have another one in mind? Thanks in advance.

i guess being at college, i have no social abilities, not having any friends, studying for hours a day, and have grown up in an environment all my life where cynicism and pessimism were boundless, thought about killing myself plenty of times blah blah blah. i guess that's what you call mild depression, but i'm not a doctor

You should have a proper diagnosis of mild depression before taking it. Bad mood can be due to other causes like stress, thryoid malfunction, hormone issues.

See your doctor to discuss whether or not you have depression. St John's Wort has been shown to be helpful in mild depression. It does have some side effects, there are some other medications you cannot take with it and you should avoid sun exposure while on it.

Ask your doctor whether you can try it.

I have moderate depression, worse depending upon life, the universe and everything. For several years I took different antidepressants, they all worked to varying degrees, however they all also had side effects.

For me I found that I can control the depression by exercise, eating foods that are at most minimally processed, and St. John's Wort. I take the St. Johns mostly on a need to basis. If I feel that things are getting out of control, or visiting my in-laws, that kind of stuff.

When I first started taking it I took it everyday until I felt in control and then gradually decrease the frequency, that way I was able to recognize "stressers" and adjust dosage and frequency to fit.

St. John's Wort does have some side effects, I wouldn't take it if you are currently on an antidepressant, check it's interaction with other medications, and remember that it will make you photosensitive. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.

I'm a believer in its benefits, but no matter what you decide, good luck.

definite. it could have an result on the two one among those. incredibly beginning administration pills it -easily- stops from working correct. in line with the way it interferes with drugs (CYP3A4 induction) if I have been to %. any 2 random drugs in the international, St. John's Wort could have a extreme interplay with one among them. A bare minimum of fifty% of drugs are broken down by ability of CYP3A4, and how St. John's Wort works can relatively be existence threatening in case you're taking particular seizure drugs, antibiotics, or blood stress drugs. It relies upon on what the inhaler is. simply by fact maximum inhalers are domestically appearing, the clearance of the drugs by ability of the liver isn't as lots of an argument as that's with many others.

I have major depression and tried St. John's Wort long ago, and it honestly did nothing for me. I would discuss it with your physician or psychologist before you decide to self medicate, as that is never a good idea.

I was brought up with a similar background. Hypocrites; judgmental; pessimistic; narrow minded; you name it. Stand up for yourself and stand up for what YOU believe in. Just because you have family members who are miserable doesn't mean you have to let them, or anything bring you down! You have to let those things go and move on with your life. You ever hear that quote, "If you can't stand yourself, neither can anyone else" -Sid Caesar? Think about it, it's true. Do you at least still find pleasure in things; such as, hanging out or talking with friends? I know I keep telling people this, but I think you need to put yourself out there!! Make some friends who enrich your life; people who have a different perspective on life; people who are uplifting and supportive; people who make you smile; join some local clubs at your college, or around town. If you are into poetry join a poetry group (most of your local bookstores have FREE gatherings!)...you don't have to read YOUR poetry, you can read someone else's poetry, or even just listen and discuss. Exercise...go for a walk at night when the whether is cooler (depending on where you live). If you start feeling sorry for yourself just see that your life is a blessing and it is what you make of it. Call someone who will cheer you up, or just be there to LISTEN to your thoughts and feelings. Find new hobbies. See what makes you happy; what inspires you! KEEP BUSY!!!!!! Don't allot yourself the time to wallow in your self pity, it makes things MUCH worse, trust me on that!

I have used it when I have felt down and it has always helped me. Also recommended it to a friend who told me later it really helped her at a time when she was dealing with several problems and was fighting depression. She, like me, takes it for a few days and then stays off it until we need it again.

You have to determine if you need it every day or try taking it every 3 days just to keep it built up in your system. You may have to experiment to see what will work best for you. Every day, every other day, every third day or if you do well most of the time with no help, just when you feel yourself getting depressed. I highly recommend it and hope it will help you.

It's also important to change your lifestyle if you have to ~ if you are around others who bring you down (my grandmother was very toxic to be around and I always left feeling depressed) or you are doing things that might bring you down, avoid them and try to stay on a more positive mode. I read my Bible and draw strength from God's word to help me through rough times (and good times, too :) but find it very beneficial when I am down (as I play a capella hymns in the background to relax me.)

Wishing you well :) :)

IT is the most prescribed drug in Germany for depression by Doctors but make sure you read up on any other drugs you are on as it can cause ill effects if taken together with some drugs

It really helps some people. You are not advised to take it if you have bipolar disorder, though. It can cause a manic episode. It really helps with seasonal affective disorder. It couldn't hurt to try.

I took it and I had a severe side effect of burning skin. So, my mood couldn't improve when I felt like my skin was on fire.... Haha! It's worth a shot though!!
