In truth, I prefer to be invisible.

Neither. It's easier to not judge people based on skin color. Though, I doubt, it will ever be a day or time like that in America. We live in a place that was founded on racism. Native Americans were killed and displaced because of their culture and skin color. I doubt seriously that the man who took your father's promotion scored less on the test. Usually, affirmative action works to get those who have the ability to move ahead in education and the workforce, but are not given the chance because of their skin color or culture. Did you know that Asian Americans are discriminated against by school such as Stanford, Harvard, and Princeton because the administration doesn't want Asian American applicants to overshadow the white students? Affirmative actions helps some Asian American and other minorities applicants get into these ivy league school because they are just as intelligent as the whites.

And exactly how do you know the man scored lower? I hope you have some proof besides because your father said so.

To Shap G:
I seriously hope you are aware that affirmative action is NOT just for blacks, though that long statement of yours is so full of generalizations, I doubt it.

I think it's easier to be white in America. I'm white and I'm also pretty damn racist, but I'll concede that.

I think that in the workplace people have an easier time relating to people of their own race, and that there just happens to be a lot more white people in the average workplace.

I do think that life is tough for all of us though, and that some blacks use this hypothesis as an excuse to give up.

I think that black people will never progress until they stop focusing so much on what white people think of them and what white people do, and start holding up a mirror to see what they could be doing to improve their lot.

The one prominent black to finally speak some truth to the black community was Bill Cosby. Of course he was immediately condemned and told to shut up by the Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson crowd. You know the ones who enable excuse making since it gives them a reason to show their faces on tv.

He basically said that what should black people expect when they dress, talk, and act the way they do? Put yourself in the shoes of an employer who wants the most productive worker, who's going to fit in and help the company grow. Would you want the black guy in pants down to his *** cheeks with underwear showing and a mouth full of gold teeth? Or the white or asian guy in a suit and professional appearance?

I mean even if you take race out of the picture. I know some professional, personable black people that I would hire in an instant over some toothless white trash meth addict.

It's the blacks that don't care, don't take care of themselves, and don't try who tend to use the excuse that they can't find a good job because they're black. In my opinion it's because they're ignorant, unprofessional buffoons and an employer isnt there to create a welfare system, he's there to create a profit.

To Ms. Knowitall

You've proved you don't know anything.

You think America would be better off if our ancestors interbred with the Indians instead of staying separate? Think again. Look at South America, or anything south of the rio grande for that matter. Thanks.

Also, in regards to your comment about Asian discrimination. Those schools are smart enough to know that those Asians don't contribute much of anything after they leave the school and neither do the hordes of Indians they've been letting in for years.

It's about self preservation for those top schools. If Harvard just churned out a bunch of robot Asians who scored high on the SAT's, nobody would respect it anymore. White people are the people who make those universities prestigious and they're smart enough to know not to bite the hand that feeds them.

To the black woman who said affirmative action isn't just for blacks:

It sure as hell isn't for whites or asians. Oh yeah, its for all the ethnic groups who can't succeed on their merits and need a handout. Should've been more specific.

This happens all the time.If minorities don't score high enough they make the test easier, if they still can't pass, they get hired anyway.

This is rather stupid, especially in jobs like your Father's where lives could be at stake. Apparently political correctness has taken a back seat to common sense.

Although in American politics, all people of different racial backgrounds have the same human rights, racism still occurs today.

There is really no answer to your question, because you have to look at every issue as its own, and depending on the problem, there is no race that is easier to have than another. For example, if you are Chinese, it does not make it easier for you to live in Chinatown, and if you are white, it doesn't make it easier for you to get into a college.

Though I don't agree with affirmative action (because the person best qualified for the job should get it) your father getting shafted on a fireman job is nothing...it's not like he won't be able to find another job.

That sucks. It's easier to be white anywhere in the world (for a thousand reasons, both cultural and biologic), and what you're tather experienced sucks.

Affirmative Action is, by definition, a racist policy that promotes one person or group over another strictly due to the color of their skin, and it should be abolished. The person with the best qualifications should get the promotion (or scholarship, or whatever) based on their capability, not color.

I'm a minority and I'll tell you I never got JACK for it. Everything I ever got I earned by my own merit, deed and actions. Medals for Valor don't have affirmative action point systems.

...and I wouldnt have it any other way.

Depends on where you live. A white man in Compton after dark is either a cop, a drug seeker or just nuts.
