I would find it to be a bit odd.... like crying at the office.... however, if someone's parent just passed away or you just got news that a loved one was very ill, etc., it would be quite understandable. If it was over not getting your way or not being able to control your class, that would be questionable because teachers teach by example. But, if you don't know the reason, and the behavior isn't out of line, best to be gracious.

Speaking as a teacher, I would do my best not to let the students see me that upset (especially if they caused it.) In my opinion, there's no harm in letting students see you're human, but they also need to know they can count on you. I think if it happened to me -- if I broke down crying in front of them -- I would do the same she did: explain very briefly and apologize, then go on with class.

So I'm really curious now. Why did that seem weird to you? What would you have preferred her to do about it? I really want to know!

Teachers are human. They can have a really bad day. Maybe something horrific happened but she did not want to share the actual event.

I also feel crying is normal. So what if she cried. Just shows children that even adults cry.

A teacher friend of mine lost her baby to SIDS and the whole school was crying.. on the other hand my daughter had a teacher who cried to manipulate kids into feeling sorry for her so it just depends.
I have never heard of a man crying in front of his class....anyone?

A teacher crying in front of the students is like throwing chum into shark infested waters and then going swimming. You could do it but I really don't recommend it.
