A 10 lb. sack of potatoes is meant to carry ten pounds of potatoes which is the approximate weight the the bag can carry.
It is not really necessary made to carry exactly to the once pound.. of potatoes, Yes potatoes are grouped to size in some cases but 99% of the time it is either over that amount because they would spend hours to sort out one or two potatoes to be EXACTLY 10 lb
Now this response might surprise some,
Under they weigh and mesures act you cannot be under weight as it would be fraudulante according to the act:
But in some circumstances an ounce under is acceptable because of the way they are sorted on the delivery line.
So a 10lb bag is made to carry that amount of potatoes and some a little over. Still it does not mean that it cannot carry more.
But this the rule of thumbs.
