Excellent photos! You have a nice touch. The spider is one of a bunch of orb-weavers that get fairly big. It looks like one of the 'humped' Araneids, that I just lump together as "Barn Spiders", because that's where I usually saw them growing up. They're quite harmless, and can be very interesting to watch - you have a great opportunity to see how they build a web, since your window is likely a good place to put a snare to trap moths and other night-flying insects.

uhmmm I believe its a scary spider (both) and.....I wouldnt go any closer to them unless u have a death wish.
