Why hasn't Celsius come into general usage in the United States?

The USA is the only country in the world not to use the metric system of weights and measures although things are gradually changing. All weather observations in the USA and international weather reports use Celsius but the temperatures are converted for local consumption. All it requires is for someone to bite the bullet and use Celsius only and the system will change.

It is pointless using both systems at the same time because people will not learn the new one. Determine the day of the change and from that point, use Celsius only. It will bring a tardy USA into line with the rest of the world.

Mostly our own ignorance. The metric system is used by every country but the United States. Canada converted in the seventies in about 2 years I think. The United States started at the same time. We are not there yet. What do you think? I'm sticking with the our own ignorance theory.
