Probably Barry Bonds because he doesn't have a likable personality. John Rocker used to be the most ridiculed player in baseball because of the ignorant comments he made during that one Sports Illustrated interview.

Of course, right now the most ridiculed player is barry bonds, for those fake homerun records reached with the help of steroids.

Historically, I think the most ridiculed player ever is another giant, Fred Merkle, a young infielder in 1908, whose mental error forced a tie-breaking game between the Cubs and giants, with the Cubs winning.

And a honorable mention for Mitch Williams, who allowed that homerun in the 1993 world series.

Well, there's Barry Bonds...

But, I'm going to say Sean Casey of the Detroit Tigers, who is eternally picked on by TV and radio announcers, his own teammates, and even his manager, for being a slow runner.

He's such a nice guy, you can't pick on him for much else, but it IS hilarious to see him run around the bases. If there's anybody on behind him, they have to take care not to catch up to him.

Jim Leyland once said the steal sign for Sean Casey would be if he jumped up and never came down - but Sean did record a stolen base this year, and just last weekend had an infield single - so maybe he has the last laugh after all.

You didn't say past or present.

Present -- Bonds by a long shot (or a PED shot, a ha ha ha)

Past -- Marvelous Marvin Throneberry. Much better than his reputation, yet somehow so fittingly to image of the Hapless Mets.

Currently it would have to be B*nds. Historically, I think it's Brewer announcer Bob Uecker who has made a movie, TV and commercial career, by playing up his haplessness when he was a player. I love his quote about catching the knuckleball. "Nothing to it. You just wait till it stops rolling and pick it up."

Barry Bonds, but he is unfairly being singled out. It is obvious that McGwire and Sosa also did steroids, but nobody mentions them, only Bonds.

Bill Buckner

Barry Bonds because of all the steriods speculation and him supposedly using them (nothing has been proven yet and probably never will be) but he probably is.
