It's pretty true, I mean, when was the last time you saw an Iranian gay guy in pink short shorts and a leather vest saying "Jesus Christ it's hot out herrrree!" I haven't... So it must be true, in Iran they don't have homosexuals like in this country.

The people laughed because they are all educated people who understand that homosexuality is not a choice, and it is something you are born as. I also found your comment rather insensitive. They were simply laughing at his ignorance to the subject. That would be like us saying we don't have any mentally ill people in Massachusetts because it's bad or it's a sin or whatever. It isn't a choice. (Not that homosexuality and mental illness have anything in common) But it's obvious. Roughly 10% of people are going to be born gay, regardless of where they come form. I think that Americans don't necessarily understand the struggle homosexuals endure in other cultures, because we're so used to the freedom we have.

They laughed because he, as a leader of a nation, lied to the world through his teeth, and made a complete fool of himself. If he isn't man enough to tell the truth about something as minor as this, why on earth should anyone on this planet, including his own nation, believe ANYTHING he tells them?

Because his answer was laughable, and the "like in this country" part was added in order to avoid giving a direct response. Everybody knows there are gays in Iran and everywhere else, and their attitude about it is, like everything else there, twisted. It's okay to have sex with a female goat there, but not a male goat. It's okay to have sex with little Muslim boys but not grown Muslim men. How can anyone expect to get a straight answer out of him regarding Muslim sexual practices?

none of my gay friends wear pink short shorts and a leather vest. Who actually knows if they have homosexuals there - it might be a case where homosexuality is repressed there because of religious beliefs - so there might be homosexuals but they can't be open about their sexuality.

Well he's right. Homosexuality is a western phenomenon. In Africa it is virtually non existant except for in a few small tribes who engage in it for ritual purposes.
