7 x + 46 = 180
7 x = 134
x = 134 / 7
x = 19 1/7

(5x+17)+(2x+29)=180

*combine like terms

(5x + 2x) + (17 + 29) = 180
7x + 46 = 180

*transpose 46 to get value of 7x
7x = 180 - 46
7x = 134

*transpose 7 to the right side to get the value of x
x = 134/7

The parentheses in this particular problem do not serve any purpose because everything is addition. Therefore, just drop the parentheses and combine all the like terms first:

5x+17+2x+29=180
7x+46=180
now you can actually start working the equation to isolate the x variable:
7x=180-46
7x=134
x=134/7 (in lowest terms as it is)

(5x+17)+(2x+29)=180

Combine Like terms
7x + 46 =180

Subtract 46 from both sides.
7x= 134

Divide both sides by 7.
x=19 and 1/7

uhm. check my math because I did it in my head without writing it down or anything [[: but the steps are right. Just make sure the numbers are too. Hope this helps~

5x+2x+17+29=180
7x+46=180
transpose
7x=180-46
7x=134
x= 134 / 7

x= 19.1429 aprox

this sounds so much like the geometry i worked on last week...

5x + 17 + 2x + 29 = 180
7x + 46 = 180
7x = 134
x = 19

(5x+17)+(2x+29)=180
5x+17+2x+29=180
7x+46=180
7x=134
x=134/7 (or 19 1/7 or 19.14285714)

Yes. Subtract 17 from both sides. Subtract 29 from both sides. Combine the 5x and 2x to make 7x. Then divide both sides by x. This will give you the solution.

5x+17+2x+29=180
7x=180-17-29
x=(180-17-29)/7

Yes

Combine the 'x' terms and the constants

5x + 2x = 180 - 17 - 29
7x = 134

I am sure you can do the rest...
