I love both these bands, but for totally different reasons. I'd have to say that Modest Mouse beats the Shins, but they're both great. They also both have really, really deep lyrics.

I personally would choose The Shins, mainly because of their first two albums (Oh Inverted World and Chutes Too Narrow). The new album wasn't so great... There's just something very haunting about New Slang, The Past and Pending and Pink Bullets. The Shins can also have the weirdest and most fasinating music videos (So Says I) and lyrics (Fighting in a Sack, Know Your Onion!)

I really dislike The Shins, even though we are from the same town. They are so annoying! I would have to say Modest Mouse, even though I dislike them, also. But Johnny Marr is their guitarist.

I would have to go with Modest Mouse on this one. Have more depth in my opinion.
