So the Michigan Government is to be shut down as of October 1 unless they can come to a conclusion on what to do about our insane debt before then. Does anyone know what will happen if this happens. Will there be no police, will there still be school?

I find it offensive hat you think I am "completely making this up." Do a google search on it. Stuff will come up and we were talking about it all day in school today.

State level non-essential agencies would probably be affected. I don't know about schools, but police services would almost certainly remain in effect.

Call your state legislator and voice your opinion. You're never too young to understand how your lawmaker's decisions affect you!

First off, I voted for DeVos.

Grandmole ran the state into the ground by spending money like a druken sailor. Dems believe in tax tax tax and sell the idelism bordering socialism to the stupid fricking liberals in Michigan that basically promises them healthcare, food, jobs etc. The basic things one needs to live.

Her appeal also is because there are sooooooooooo many auto workers and union zombies you can't swing a dead cat in a bar in the afternoon without nailing a card carring member of the UAW or IBEW. In case you didn't know about the auto industry's union, it's basically a security fee that you pay so that you can smoke crack in the bathroom on your potty break you get every 20 minutes at any of the Big 3 factories. Thus, majority of people in Michigan are liberals, minorities (I am one btw) or little cogs fueling the big wheel of the auto industry.

When this shutdown happens on Monday, it will affect every single person in Michigan differently. The Secretary of State will shut down. There will be no liqour available from the Liquor Control Commision - bars, restaurants, liqour stores and the mom and pop store will have NO BOOZE to sell. The food stamp system will have no money in order for those who rely on it just to eat. The unemployment benefits will stop. There are about 6.5% of Michigan residents who collect unemployment money so they are even more screwed financilly.

Police forces and schools will remain open. Next week is "count week" for the students in the Michigan schools. There were rumors of the police department shutting down, but if we do "shut down" the government, some state officers will be on temporary layoff (Good Times!!)

Finally, every Michgander or Michiganian will have to be embarassed by the fact that our state sucks so bad, we can't even keep our government open.

Most government run services will shut down. Only essentials will remain running, state police, prisons & mental health services. I'm not sure about schools, some of their budget comes from the county. Even so, it won't be shut down for long.

the lottery, and other state funded things will shut down, but banks and the post office and such wont.
police have said they'll work w/o pay as long as they get paid once the thing is settled(my dads a fireman and he hasnt said ANYTHING about it so im assuming they will too)

schools will only shut down if the state is shuts down till Oct. 22.

I'm from michigan and I have been hearing about it all day

Schools will conteniue (darn) but they will not be paid, which means that we may have to pay to go to school. The police people that eork on the lakes will most likely be laid off. Most construction workers will loose there jobs, becasue there paid by the state. ummm, not much will change. we may not have to pay sales tax (YES!!!!!) or any other taxes for that matter.

"We won't have to pay sales tax(YES!!)"

How the hell do you think the state gets money to pay for things like schools, parks, police, fire dept, prisons, etc. Or do you think it would be better if we had a bunch of uneducated children and released convicts running around.
