Indians have been lucky thia year. I sdon'ty care what any indians fans here say if the Tigers didn't have injuries they would have run awya with the division. Indians got no pitching, Borowski sucks and they got no good tsarting pitchig besides Sabathia who is only ok at best. Hitting wise they only have Martinez and the rest of the hitting can't hit out of a peper bag. I guess sweep by Yankees in first round. Tigers 2008 WS Champs

This question proves one thing to me: you definitely haven't watched the Indians play at all.

Sabathia is only ok? WOW, you're so off base here. He's 18-7 with a 3.19 ERA and 205 K's. He's one of the best in baseball.

Carmona is 18-8 with a 3.03 ERA and 133 K's. He's the breakout player of 2007.

Byrd is 15-7 - very good for a 3rd starter.

Borowski isn't the best closer in the league, but he does have 43 saves -- leading the A.L.

As far as Martinez being the only good hitter - again, you're crazy. Have to heard of Sizemore? Peralta? Hafner? Garko? They all have 20+ HR's this year.

You spell like a Detroit fan...

Needless to say, you do not win 95 games in baseball by being lukcy. If the Tigers didn't have a rash of injuries it would have been closer, but the Tribe still would have won the division.

You think Sabathia is their only good pitcher? Carmona has won 18 games with a low 3 ERA. That's dominance, not luck. Let's not forget they lost Cliff Lee to injury, so it's not like the Tigers were the only team dealing with it. Yeah, Borowski is no good but the Rafael's in the bullpen -- Betancourt and Perez -- are solid relievers.

And I think most of their hitters *could* hit out of a 'peper' bag, as you say. You mention Martinez, but Pronk, Sizemore, Barfiled and Garko are all sluggers. Their AVG and OBP are low but their power numbers are big. Same goes for Peralta.

If the Indians suck as much as you claim they do, then the Tigers must really be terrible to lose the division to such a crappy team.

Wow very interesting way of looking at the DIVISION CHAMPS....To say the Indians got lucky this year to do what they have done,is ummmm errrrrrrrr a bit of a reach... I agree with other comments left on this question of yours..C.C. Carmona,Byrd,Westbrook is pitching better now....The pen had a great regular season,Borowski was not even brought here to be the closer, and what does he have now 43 saves...not to bad!!

Victor..Travis..Grady.. Well I guess they may not be the highly overpaid baseball players some other teams may have.Oh wait Garko..Jhonny..Lofton.. But Iam a Tribe fan,so you can bet ill be cheering them on...

Cleveland may not be the best team "MONEY" can buy. It is a group of baseball players that play hard and are being rewarded for that fact!!!! If they get sweep by the Yanks in the first round,at least they made the playoffs.Who do you think the Tigers will be rooting for?...I bet they would want someone in the division to win it all...

GO TRIBE!!!!

Former Yankee great Yogi Berra had many good quotes. One of the best is "Good pitching beats good hitting and vice versa." I am not sure what Yogi means, but if he means that good pitching is more important than good hitting over the course of a long season, then the Cleveland Indians proved they deserved to win the AL Central going away with Sabathia, Westbrook, Carmona and Byrd. The fact that they have Hafner, Garko, Sizemore, Martinez to hit the ball is probably the other part of Yogi's equation. And I would agree with you that Joe Borowski has an ERA near 5 and has no business being the Indians' closer, except the guy has 43 saves. You can't argue with those numbers. The Indians won the central because they earned it

The reason the season is so long (154-162 games) is to nullify just what you are talking about. NO ONE -- no team, no player -- can be lucky for 154-162 games. Injuries are part of the game. So are slumps and age and losing it and on and on and on. The Cleveland Indians are many things but lucky isn't one of them. There are cinderella teams, but that's only a team that looks weak compared to the others that make it to the post season. But luck? Nah. Not luck. Not this year.

It is not just a matter of luck. It is a matter of not willing to give up. That is what a TRUE fan believes. You don't understand the true meaning of a division title. Baseball is a tough game for people to play everyday. Players can get hurt and get in slumps. Nobody can predict that.

wait a sec, just because your a homer doesn't mean you should hate on the indians. you gotta win the games, its not the indians fault. and borowski is one of the top closers this year, check your facts. having said that, i would rather see the tigers in it rather than the indians. i'm a reds fan so i have to hate in state rivals.

Maybe some of their success has been luck, but for the most part they've been earning their wins. Sure they have weaknesses, but they have also had dominant starting pitching with 2 Cy Young candidates in their rotation. As for injuries, there's not much you can do about them. Some teams have it worse than others, but that's just baseball.

A little pisse* off now arent we?

Tigers 2008 WS Champs? LOL!

Its highly unlikley you get lucky for 162 games in a season. I could have said the same thing about last years Tigers!

P.S. Maybe Derek Jeter will see you guys golfing AFTER we take home a ring.

I wouldnt say that. I am a die hard Tiger fan (I lost a bet hence this stupid avatar); but Cleveland does have a good team.

Cleveland earned The Division Title by simply playing better baseball than My Boys did.

However, I hope they lose in the 1st round (unless they play Anaheim).
