kick

An ostrich acting in self-defense will extend first one wing and then the other in repeated, threatening motions resembling those of a boxer. In a charge, ostriches fully extend their wings, creating an awesome spectacle.

The long, powerful legs of these birds are their main weapon of defense, enabling them to flee or fight. Ratites fight with kicks, kicking from the knees (technically the ankles) forward and down, instead of backward.

They extend their wings to appear bigger, and more intimidating. If that doesn't work, they flap, kick and peck. I'd not say running away is self-defense....

defeat godliness, ostriches are from Africa and Arabia. Emus are from Australia.

Also, an ostrich sticking its head in sand? Just a myth, guys.

They kick as hard as a horse does but instead of a toe on the end of their foot they have a long pointed nail. Get kicked in the gut and your abdominal cavity will be slashed open and emptied. They are not little defenseless tweety birds.

Ostriches actually rarely fight. It's not unheard of but because they truly believe that they become invisible when they hide or bury their head, they have no reason to fight.

If you were about to be acosted but were able to make yourself invisible, there'd be no fight, right?

Such is the poor ostriches' plight.

Cheers!
