kGet into some kind of shape.
Make sure you stretch before every game, especially the groin area, groin pulls are no fun, I know.
Get some decent equipment, especially skates, don't cheap out on the skates. Go to a good shop where they are knowledgable about skates and get fitted properly.
And last of all HAVE FUN.

Keep your head up, learn how to handle the puck on feel rather than looking at it. Not only will it keep you from getting pounded but you'll also be able to see your teammates better and hence be a better playmaker.

practice your skating as much as possible, if you can't skate well you can't play hockey. Also always keep your head up or you'll get creamed by someone.

make sure that you really, really stretch before gametime!!!! You're going to be using muscles that you haven't used all summer. The first time back is always worst for muscle injuries.
