I have two daughters, ages 15 and 13. When they were 11 they both loved Disocery Girls Magazine. I think it's more age appropriate and has more articles that they can relate to. Seventeen is a great magazine, but it's more aimed at older readers and the articles are evidence of that.

Some sections of Seventeen may be a bit to mature for your 11 year old, depending on her own personal maturity level. Regardless, she is getting to that point in her life where it's better for her to learn about these things directly, than have to find out the hard way.
I say, let her have it, but maybe read through each issue yourself first and take out anything you would deem entirely inappropriate. As she gets older, she can have the magazine without all the editing.

As much as I love Seventeen magazine, there are things that she shouldn't be thinking about, and things too mature for someone her age. Maybe in a few years, but no, not at 11. If you're not convinced, I'd suggest picking a copy up from a store, and reading it so you can see what's in there, because what I think is inappropriate for an 11 year old might be fine for you.

Yes, there are some things many parents wouldnt want er reading. There is a relationships section, life stories about teen pregnancy (the stories are inspirational, not 'slutty' and terrible), overcoming abuse, make up (which isnt bad), and in many issues they support the use of condoms for safe... You know. All of these things are technically positive, and at that age, i've already known about safe sex (although I wasn't doing anything or dating back then, my parents and health classes just told me about it), but many other parents find it... Erm, too mature for their own child. Oh, yes. And many of the models on the front cover aren't good role models for a 13-year-old. *cough* Miley cyrus... In one article, Miley said she was going to be far more decent for this new year... And... Well, her most recent performances and videos state otherwise. Yes, and most of them are thin. Very. September issue articles: Do Your Friends Hate Your Guy The Truth about implants (they only list cons, which is good) The best boyfriends in america Some halloween hookup quiz about which boy to date (a vampire, a boy dressed as a wolf, etc.)

Theres a magazine called teen mag and its from the creators of seventeen but its more for the age range of 11-15. It talks about skin care, hair care, makeup tips, and other stuff that that age group is just starting to get into. I'm 14 and I love teen magazine it doesnt have so much of the mature matiral like sventeen and cosmogirl does. Heres the link if your intrested in subscribing or checking out what its about.
www.teenmag.com
hope she enjoys it.

Of course! Seventeen is made for 11 year olds! When I was young it was my peers' favorite magazine. I'm 16 and stopped reading Seventeen at age 13. I probably started at age 10. I subscribed to nickelodeon, teen vogue and occassionally bought seventeen or cosmogirl when I was 11 (that's 5th or 6th grade, right?)

in the magazine 17 there is no content that makes it not approprate for an 11 year old. The magazine talks mostly about problems a girl faces in life and how to deal but it also refers to clothes and hair and make-up. if u don't want yout daughter reading stuff like that try the magazine GL (girls life) that is focased more towards younger pre teens

I started reading that magazine when I was around 13 and alot of the stuff in there were things I already knew about, but obviously wouldn't tell my mom I knew. I think you should wait a couple of years... Most of the magazine is about how to kiss, embarassing stories, girls asking period questions, ect....stuff teenage girls would want to know... but an 11 year old probably would be embarrased by it.

Yes, let her. I know Seventeen is a little more risque than when I was growing up, but it is a magazine for teenagers, which she nearly is. Tweens enjoy reading about celebs, fashion, makeup. It's no more harmful than television or the internet. I would let her subscribe and ask her to share the things she finds interesting in the magazine to you.

Well i started getting it rite before i turned 12. it really depends on how mature she is. it helped me a lot to understand things about my period and my body and things like that. The only thing is there is a little section on sex in almost each issue. It isn't bad stuff though. Sometimes thay ask people why they practice abstinence and things like that. I would say let her get the magazine.
