Considering the absence of Ponting, I would say that India might get up to 3 wins but the Aussies will win it 4-3

Aussie are always the favorites in any tournament. They are such a great team.
But i really believe that India will put up a good show in that series. I will not be surprised if India beats Australia 4-3.

Australia in India are always hard to predict. Sometimes they flop, sometimes they crush all opposition.
Nevertheless, India have found both some excellent new players and some extra consistency and discipline in the Twenty20 World Championship. If they can keep those things going for the ODI series they will be a tougher test than they have previously been able to provide, and if they can make the switch from the 20-over format to the 50-over one and not lose their heads, they have a very good chance of beating Australia 4-3 or 5-2. If they can't get out of 20-over mode they will be in trouble, though.

It will be a closely contested series. India has everything to achieve. They have to maintain the records as the only that was not defeated by Australia since 2007. Australia lost the world series then the 2007 test series in India. The dangling carror for India is that if the beat them 5-2, they will be No.1. For Australia they have to justify that their winning the cT was not a luck, though rain favored them in the crucial league against India where they had to split the point and this eliminated the Indians. I expect a clean series since certain notorious characters are missing!

Ponting has been cleared for the ODI series. While there is no doubt that Australia will come back strongly to avenge the defeat in the t20 world cup and and redeem their prestige, since indian team are high on morale, i strongly feel that they will give tough fight to Australia and I will not be surprised if India win the series too.

India are playing great cricket and the Aussies are difficult to beat even when not at home.
