I have 6 female bettas, mine are all active and feisty. They all live in larger tanks, nobody is in anything less than a 3g tank.
Bettas in tiny homes sit there, what else are they going to do.
In my setups they move around, swim, explore and very active fish.

I'm willing to bet everyone here who said they are just lazy fish has them in a bowl or a small tank, no heat.
bettas can be very active, but what are they supposed to do in unheated bowls with not much room to swim? bettas are tropical fish that like temps around 80°F. if you betta is in an unheated bowl it's normal. however, if your betta is in proper living conditions this isn't normal and you should keep an eye on them to look for any other symptoms.
also, if they are together I highly recommend getting at least one more, they are best in groups o 5 or more, but really shouldn't be in less two because of fighting, with more than two the violence is spread out enough to form a pecking order and the fish can live peacefully after a few days of sorting things out.

Yes! they are not very active little critters. The best way to judge how well they are doing is simply whether they are good eaters. If they have a good appetite then they are in good shape. Another indicator is their fins. Especially with males it is a sign: If there fins are erect and seem to move about and do not droop then the fish is most likely healthy. When a Betta has droopy ragged fins you might be in trouble.

if you want them to be active, put them in a 1-5 gallon tank, with lots of cavernous rocks and overhanging plants.
mine was lazy in his little plastic tank, but when i put him in a 5 gallon with lots of stuff to investigate, he loved it.
you'll find they eat more, and become more vibrant in colour as well.
mine has also lived alot longer than i had expected from what people had told me, so i'm betting on it's a healthier choice for them too.

Especieally for female bettas, yes. In their habitats, they would often settle on top of plants and rock works because there is barely any current so they just sit down. :)

betta fish are top/bottom dwellers, so you have nothing to worry about. They don't freely swim that often.
